Story of the week:
One Good Pup
We got our new readers today!! We were all so excited, and wanted to dive right in and read it! We are working hard in reading groups, and we are making progress. This week, we will be working on listening for what makes sense and watching for what looks right when we are reading.

Writing
Author Study: None this week- we will read seasonal books!
We are STILL working on writing a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Learning to write enough details in a story can be very hard for first graders. You can help reinforce this skill by having your child tell you the beginning, middle, and end of a book they read at home.

Math

Math test on Friday, October 16, 2009!!

Religion
We have finished learning about the 5 Joyful Mysteries. (The Annunciation; Mary’s visit to Elizabeth; the Birth of Jesus; the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple; and Finding Jesus in the Temple) This week, we will learn the 5 Sorrowful Mysteries, and we will practice praying a Rosary together in class.

Science
Monday we will take a break to learn about Columbus. After that, we will continue learning about the parts of a plant and their jobs.

Things of Note:
You should have received a note with your day and time for Parent teacher conferences. If you did not receive it, please let me know. Any changes that need to be made need to be done through the office. I look forward to visiting with all of you!

Open House on Monday, October 12 from 5-7 pm. Come and take a look at what we have been busy learning in our classroom!! The children have prepared many things for you to see!
