Spelling- best, let, red, ten, step, test Sight word: get
We are working on the short e sound.
This week, we had a dictation test along with our spelling test. The dictation sentence will be one that I give to them to write. I will count for spelling on all words, a capital letter at the beginning, and a period at the end of the sentence. The words that will be used in the sentence will be sight words and spelling words. Each month, this number of dictation sentences will increase by one. So- November, 1 sentence; December, 2 sentences; January 3 sentences, etc.
Reading
Story of the week: Stan’s Stunt
When your child reads a book to you or you read a book to them, have them tell you the order of the story starting with the beginning, then the middle, and then the end. Try to encourage them to tell you details about the book too.
Author Study:
We will be reading about Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, and Turkeys for the rest of this month.
Writing- We had fun with learning about verbs this week. One thing you can do to help your child recognize verbs is to have them find some verbs when you are reading with them. You can also help them learn some new verbs that mean about the same thing as the one they found.
This week we will learn about adjectives—describing words.
Math We are still working on addition fact practice. We will have a math test on Friday, November 20 over chapter 6- addition fact practice.
Religion We will begin learning about Advent next week.
Social Studies- Our Changing World
Things of Note:
Tag day on Tuesday, November 17. Bring $3 and have a free dress day!!!
Clearinghouse donation for the month: fruit cups. If every IC student brought an 8 pack of fruit cups, the school would donate over 2800 fruit cups to children in need.
Midterms will be out on Tuesday, November 17. Check edline!
Reminder! If a Reading Review is not turned in on Fridays each week, there will be 2 points deducted from the total amount possible (10). Thank you for your help with this!
Each year, the classes are assigned an item to bring so that our school can create Thanksgiving baskets for families in need. This year, my class needs to bring a box of instant potatoes. If you have all ready done so, thank you! If you have not had a chance to bring them, you may send them in with your child by next Friday, November 20.
